While some hotheads can’t stop fabricating new thick-witted pretexts for clamping more and more sanctions on Russia for rejoining with Crimea, a British couple, Richard and Dasha Hugg, shot a really charming video of their vacation on the peninsula in May 2016. Enjoy the videography and the scenes!

Crimeans got worried by the oligarch-fuelled power grab in Ukraine, which left the country shorn of legitimate power, and held a referendum on the peninsula’s status on March 16, 2014. The citizens were offered two questions: whether to restore the 1992 constitution and remain a part of Ukraine with extended rights, or rejoin Russia. With a turnout exceeding 80%, nearly 97% of Crimeans chose the latter.
The Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol became the parts of Russia, which served as pretext for the US, the EU and some other states to give Moscow a broadside of sanctions badly hurting its economy. The Kremlin hit back with a food embargo. Sadly, the West apparently turned a blind eye to the right of nations to self-determination enshrined by the United Nations. Two years on, the sanction tug of war continues and no one can see an end to it.
